Larson discussed playing Samus in a Metroid movie because of attention drawn to her wearing a Samus Halloween costume two years ago based on her love of the character in Super Smash Bros. The actress is prominently known for her role as Carol Danvers, or Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and it’s hard not to see a connection between the two powerful, spacefaring protagonists as a point in Larson’s favor for the potential role.

BossLogic’s poster, which shows Larson with Samus’ power armor digitally forming over her face and body, is based on Brie Larson Metroid fan art they created in 2018 with added flair like Imax screening details at the bottom. The popular artist has depicted characters like Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia in games such as Mortal Kombat 11 in the past, so their style fits perfectly for this Metroid movie concept.
Being able to draw on this fitting, older artwork at the right time has garnered BossLogic extra attention from creative forces who would be involved in something like this theoretical Metroid movie. Larson herself picked up on the poster through Twitter, giving the general declaration that someone should “make it happen.”
Leading up to and following the release of the MCU’s Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, Larson has been the subject of ire and harassment online by some, but her popularity has also soared. She recently began her own YouTube channel, with interest in creating gaming content, and praised Super Mario 3D World and Breath of the Wild in a “Hot Ones” interview earlier this month.
Regardless of one’s thoughts on Larson, it’s hard to deny that many feel she fits an appropriate archetype to play Samus — even if titles like Metroid: Other M have left some cautious about creating heavily narrative-driven experiences for the character. With games like Metroid Prime 4 in development, Metroid continues to be one of Nintendo’s fan-favorite franchises, so it would be interesting to see how they would tackle a silver screen adaptation.
